Reporter: Jessica Gu Feb 25th, 2008, CSU, Fort Collins The insurance information session was held from 3:30 p.m. to 5p.m. on Feb. 20, 2008 at the Office of International Programs in Laurel Hall. The session was to hear the concerns about health coverage and costs and answer questions from international students. Given the high cost of insurance and the 2008 plan that require all graduated school students to buy CSU’s insurance plan or equivalent insurance plan, the info session attracted a few international students. Paul Mayo from Summit America (the contracting agent handling CSU’s health insurance plan), Maria “Stella” Anderson from Hartshorn Health Service Students Insurance, Steve Blom from Hartshorn Health Service , Mark Hallett from the Office of International Programs participated the information session. All international students who are studying at CSU have been invited to the session. In the meeting, international students from different countries asked the representatives their questions. Fang Wang, the president of Chinese Students and Scholars Association, focused her questions mainly in the aspect of equivalent plan. Anderson responded that a criteria list of equivalent plan that contains the complete list of requirements has been updated in the Hartshorn Health Service’s website after Chinese students brought the concern to their attention. Also Anderson mentioned that for those international students who have been denied to buy outside plan, they are eligible to appeal if they still think their plan is equivalent and should be accepted. Fang Wang, Guoliang Wang, and Zeyu Sun will have a future meeting with Mark Hallet, Steve Blom, Stella Anderson, and Jody Donovan (and others) to talk about CSSA and health insurance on March. After the time is decided, the meeting's time and location will be announced on the website. For those who may be interested in the meeting, Chinese students can send emails to CSSA at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it requesting for participation. |
